When it comes to Fashion month, New York Fashion Week is in a league of it's own. Sharing some of the worlds biggest designers while also holding a spotlight over emerging locals, each season NYFW seems to get bigger, better and more exclusive.
This is no exception for spring/summer 2020 where designers held no boundaries for their staggering collections. Featuring mass amounts of volume, bold coloring, abstract accessories and idiosyncratic fabrics, it was hard to pinpoint favourites - yet somehow, some way, we managed to do so.
From the array of killer collections, here are the top 5 New York Fashion Week runways you need to know.
Marc Jacobs
One of the most iconic shows of NYFW, Marc Jacobs stunned with his use of color, texture, and of course, silhouette. Mix and matching prints and color, the collection gave a nostalgic 60's vibe with modern elements. Some of our favourite looks included the bold colored pant suit co-ords, the voluminous flower dresses, and the sequined maxi's - no one does sequin quite like Jacobs.
Cinq A Sept
Taking the form of a showcase rather than a runway, Cinq A Sept took attendees through the making of a look book. With models posing in the SS20 collection, they had an entire crew directing and navigating the shoot while attendees got up close and personal with the pieces. From bold flared pants to romantic flowing dresses, the collection included every essential item you need in your spring/summer wardrobe.
Self-Portrait
This season for spring/summer, Self-Portrait hosted their runway in an iconic church located in the center of Manhattan. Showcasing a range of minimal, neutral looks, designer Han Chong kept ruffling, cinched waists and a-line silhouettes at the pinnacle of each piece. We especially loved the styling of the collection, using accessories like large hats and sheer, over the ankle, socks to compliment each look.
Dion Lee
Minimalism at it's finest, Dion Lee made corsets and harnesses an absolute necessity for SS20. Playing on neutrals like white, nude, and natural greens, the attention was really in the details - and the textures. Including intricate shapes throughout skirts and pants, ribbed textures in sheer turtle necks and using waist harnesses as a statement accessory, this was a truly unique collection that made minimalism anything but simple.
Claudia Li
An evolution of design, Claudia Li showcased an SS20 collection that reflected her growth in the industry, drawing inspiration from personal experiences. Including a range of oversized looks, new elements like the use of bold coloring were used in addition to more traditional elements like pleated skirts that can be seen throughout her previous collections. Our favourite look? The pink co-ord suit shown below. Over-sized suiting is so hit or miss and Li hit it out of the park with this one.
