We’re nearing the end of August and as much as we wish we could bath in the sun all year round, it’s time to start layering and trade in our summer favourites for fall staples.
Today, in order to avoid the awkward transition months of "too hot for a winter coat and too cold for a bikini", we’ve compiled a list of the must-have staple pieces that will help effortlessly transition your from summer style to fall without compromising comfort. Let’s begin.
A Light-Weight Jacket
Whether you live in Toronto or LA having a lightweight jacket to carry around with you is an absolute necessity to transition from summer to fall. They’re easy to carry around and give you that perfect amount of protection from a chilly breeze. This one from Mural is chic and stylish, offering you very minimal fabric so you never feel stuffy on those hotter days.
It’s Sneaker Time.
It’s time to trade in your favourite sandals for a good pair of sneakers. With the colder - and sometimes rainy - months coming in, sandals aren’t worth the risk. Sneakers are a great transition staple, they’re comfortable and they keep your feet covered without being overly warm like a hefty boot. What's more, chunky sneakers are all the rage right now - these ones by Nike Air Huarache Run Sneaker are at a great price point (considering some of these bad boys can run up to $1200) and they come in a range of colors. If you’re feeling adventurous, opt for a bright pink - a color that’s very in for fall.
Sweater Weather
It wouldn’t be fall without busting our your favourite oversized sweater. As a transition piece from summer we suggest something a little more light weight, that way you can layer it when needed or have it tied around your waist. This one from Anthrolpolgie is great staple - coming in three different colors it’s the perfect lightweight option to keep you cozy and comfortable on a breezy fall night.
Airy Pants
With summer just ending wearing jeans might not feel like a comfortable option. To avoid the "sticky" feeling, we suggest investing in a pair of airy pants such as culottes or cargo pants. These allow you to move freely without making you feel stuffy or too warm. Recently Garage teamed up with Youtube influencer Sierra Furtado to launch a new collection and we are absolutely obsessed with the cargo pants they released. From the colors to the fit, they're the perfect staple piece for fall.
A Chunky Cardigan
Although it might be too hot to wear a full on wool sweater to run your daily errands, it’s not too hot to have a chunky knit cardigan on hand. Especially nearing the end of September, an oversized knit cardigan that you can easily chuck on, can make all the difference. This one by Wilfred is made from a soft alpaca-blend yarn from Italy so you’re guaranteed to be warm and cozy.

A Classic Midi/Maxi Dress.
If you’re caught between comfort and style for work during the fall time, a midi/maxi dress is the perfect solution. Chic and sophisticated, this one by Wilfred is “cut from fluid jersey for a fit-and-flare silhouette.” Perfect for any occasion, you can dress it up for a night out or dress it down for a day at the office. A summer to fall transition essential.
A Blanket Scarf.
It wouldn’t be fall without a giant scarf that you can bundle up in. Perfect for layering, a blanket scarf gives you the versatility to wear it as a shaul with a casual outfit or as a statement layering piece on a really cold day. A scarf also adds dimension to an otherwise standard outfit. We are obsessed with this one by Wilfred which is 100% wool, and comes in a large array of colors.
By adopting one or even two of these pieces you're guaranteedto have a smoother transition to fall - while looking chic and stylish.
