It’s time to pack your beach tote and start heading to some exciting beaches in the GTA. After the cold months, summer is here and it's time to pamper yourself and get your tan on!
For us, the beach is the perfect escape. Whether you’re playing Volleyball, getting your much needed time off work or having a leisurely walk with family and friends, a beach can help give you that perfect summer.
Here we share our favourite beaches that you can head to, to relax with some sand and sunshine.
Scarborough Bluffs
One of our must-visits! The beautiful scenery from the shore and the beach is a combined package that offers you a good time and fun memories with your friends and family. Your ideal weekend could include some pleasing photography, a great swim in the clear waters, some wildlife watching and treks. Getting to the beach will not be an issue as it is well connected to public transport including bus and subways. You can also consider driving to the beach with your family.
Woodbine Beach
Over to our next favourite beach, Woodbine beach is the hub for all activities. You can find over 90 volleyball courts around this beach! Woodbine beach, which is considered one of the most popular beaches in Toronto, has received a blue flag since 2005 that assures good quality water and environment. This beach is known for some major celebrations on Canada Day and Victoria Day. It’s the right time to have a break from your busy life and relax. The most preferred commute is through TTC or bike. Parking slots are limitedly available here.
Sugar Beach
The perfect location for a little relaxation! Working in Toronto can feel a little overwhelming and crowded at times. Sugar beach, located near central Toronto, is a little beach with a great environment for a midday break. It is my go-to in between classes and I would suggest you check it out.
The appealing man-made beach is known for its pink umbrellas and beautiful views of sunsets and rises. Even though, you can’t access the water, opt for a coffee, novel and have some much needed me-time away from the city.
Transportation to and from the beach isn’t a problem, located in the centre of the city it’s easily accessible via the TTC or by car.
Sunnyside Beach
Sunnyside beach with some hidden history and old memories is more of a place to hike, walk and relax in peace. Surrounded by aesthetically pleasing cafes that offer some refreshing drinks and snacks, you can experience the the perfect combination of a great meal and a beautiful view. We love this beach for its picture worthy sunsets and sunrises. Although, it is not considered to be the best spot for swimming it passes the water safety standard test around 75% of the time.
If you’d rather pass on the swim, a great run, a long walk and maybe some talks can be the perfect activities on the best boardwalk and waterfront trail.
Sunnyside beach can easily be reached through TTC but routes may change.
Hanlan’s Beach
We’d argue that this is the most fun beach located in downtown Toronto. Hanlan’s beach, is a no clothing optional beach which is less crowded than other local beaches. If you’re looking to try the nude lifestyle, this beach has areas separately marked guiding where clothing is mandatory or optional. Call it a calm and peaceful beach which gives you the right break from hectic schedule. One thing to note, Hanlan’s beach is a part of Toronto Islands and thus, you will need to take a short ferry to reach the beach. The ferry can be taken from the Toronto Ferry Docks and make sure to reach the right point.
Summing up, although Toronto is a busy city, it provides some beautiful spots to relax. So pack your sunscreen and swimsuits. Both the sand and sun are calling you to take some time off your hectic schedules.
