Prince Edward County in 24 hours!!

My GF and I packed up our bags last weekend for a quick 24 hour rip up to Prince Edward Country (PEC). What we thought would be a peaceful city escape turned out to be the most instagramable weekend of our young adult lives.

Print out the below where I’ve outlined the exact recipe for a down right boisterous time and do as we did and fire up the ol’ 401 straight to PEC (only 2 hours outside Toronto)!!

WHERE TO STAY

Do not walk - run to your nearest pay phone and dial up The June Motel to reserve a room for this summer. I’m just going to go ahead and say it this motel was so adorable it made me feel physically ill. The room was adorable, the lobby was adorable, the cups were adorable, even the god damn parking lot was adorable.

AND in the summer they have an outdoor fire pit (!!!And outdoor fire pit !!!).

The only other place I would dare suggest to stay would be the Drake Devonshire. It is absolutely stunning – the Saks Fifth Avenue of PEC hotels. We obviously didn’t stay there (we are peasants) but we went there for dessert our first night and for brunch the following day and it was a 10/10 service experience!

(The waiter took 100+ photos of us OUTSIDE not only on my phone but also on a polaroid camera. If that doesn’t make you want to stay there then I don’t know what will)

WHERE TO EAT

Dinner: The Courage

They had a Neon sign – need I say more?

Request table number 33 which is the best seat in the house. Full view of the lake!! The food was amazing and like I said the waiter took an ungodly amount of photos of us and did an impeccable job concealing any annoyance towards us!

We needed a warm little caffeine boost to fuel our second day and thought we were doomed with dirt water from Tim Horton’s or dairy induced lattes from McDonalds (not snobs I swear) but then we came across Miss Lilly’s and had a delicious Americano in a cute little cup!

WHERE TO DRINK

If you go with a group, I would suggest booking a wine tour. We decided to build our own wine/brewery tour but the minute we were charged $20 for a 6 minute cab ride I knew we had made a mistake.

But alas the one really cute brewery we went to was Prince Eddy’s. It’s one of those places that’s just really trying to be cool but I could totally image it being really fun and bumping on a summer day!

They have all the fixings – cute cups, twinkle lights, a ping pong table, and a polaroid camera on a tripod!!!

WHERE TO SIGHT SEE

We drove ~30 minutes to Lake on the Mountain which was just like a literal lake on a mountain and view of another lake like at the bottom of the mountain. I personally would never go back.

We then drove another ~30 minutes to Macaulay Mountain Conservation Area to do a hike. I’ll save you all the gas, time, and treacherous ride on the pot hole filled back country road and let you in on a little secret- this conservation area does not exist.

Siri was telling me I arrived at my destination and I was literally in the middle of nowhere on a two lane highway.

After spending over an hour in the car I thought nothing could get any worse until I drove another ~30 minutes to our final destination for the day – The Sandbacks only to find out they were closed for the season.

Following my small temper tantrum in the parking lot I was coerced into walking beyond the “closed” sign and towards the Sandbacks and much to my surprise the day was saved when I realized despite the main office being closed the beaches are open to the public year round baby!!!

If I closed my eyes and forced myself to be delusional enough I could have literally convinced myself that I was in Florida. We walked, danced, and cartwheeled along the imported white sands and laid down a blanket to stuff our faces with a family sized bag of mini eggs and stared out at the blue waves rolling in.

I hope this list inspires you to plan a quick city escape to the County!
