Chemical sunscreens are thin, lightweight formulas we’re used to. These chemical sunscreens are absorbers that work by changing UV rays into heat, then releasing that heat from the skin—which in the long run may possibly cause more damage to your skin such as discoloration. The second and more natural type is a physical sunscreen—it contains the active mineral ingredients titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide, and they act as physical blockers by sitting on top of the skin to deflect damaging UV rays away from the skin. They’re a little thicker and might feel heavy at first, but we also found that they work really well if you choose the right one.
