When it comes to intricate, show stopping gowns, NARCES is usually one of the first Canadian labels that comes to mind. Dedicated to creating garments that flatter and celebrate women's figures instead of concealing them, Designer Nikki Yassemi, made it her mission within this collection to empower- and it did just that.
Last Wednesday, NARCES returned to Toronto Fashion Week with an array of figure hugging, bold, and detailed gowns. Featuring a vibrant colour palette of cocktail and evening dresses, jumpsuits and unconventional bridal gowns, Nikki wasn't afraid to play with texture for SS20, using feathers, sequins, lace and tule. Embracing different textures in this collection, she managed to incorporate them in unique, artistic ways. Flowing seamlessly one garment after the next, her variation in texture didn't subtract from the flow of the show.
When it comes to inspiration, Nikki noted that she was captivated by the strength of a female warrior who fights for change, while incorporating her signature designs throughout the collection by way of high necks, long sleeves and strong shoulders.
Although many noted the final bridal gown as the ultimate gown showcased, it was the opening neon green tule look that had us floored. This playful colour and texture stepped away from the designers traditional looks which, we argue worked in her favour.
