Most Anticipated Netflix Releases for Fall/Winter 2019

With summer coming to an end and the cold season inching closer, you can bet we’re planning to stay indoors as much as possible. Whether you’re snuggling with your S/O for cuffing season or enjoying quality time by yourself, we’ve compiled a list of upcoming Netflix releases that you won’t want to miss out on this fall and winter. So keep scrolling to find our binge-worthy picks.

The I-Land

What would you do if you suddenly woke up on an island with no memory of who you are or what happened?

Featuring an A-list cast of Kate Bosworth and Alex Pettyfer, The I-Land shows 10 strangers waking up on a deserted island with no recollection of who they are or how they got there, only identifying themselves with the name printed on their clothing tag. The strangers try to band together in an attempt to survive, though this proves difficult with clashing personalities and indifferences. It isn’t until someone is murdered and fingers start pointing at each other when the strangers realize that each of them is guilty of a crime with a violent past

The thrilling series is definitely giving us major Hunger Games vibes, and if you’re not bored of the whole “killing each other off until the last one standing” trope, then you might want to give The I-Land a try.

The show was released on September 12th with 7 episodes. Check out the trailer below.

The Crown

Fans of the critically acclaimed UK Netflix show will finally get the third season they’ve all been waiting for! Named “Best Drama” at the Golden Globes, Netflix’s first UK series stole the hearts of many with the beautiful depiction of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. As the story unfolds with Queen Elizabeth II growing up throughout the years, each season consists of 10 episodes and features a new cast covering a new time period.

Actors in the cast have included Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby, and many more. For the upcoming third season, new faces will be replacing the old cast, with Olivia Colman succeeding Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and Helena Bonham Carter succeeding Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret. The third season will also mark the first appearance of Lady Diana Spencer in the show, set to be played by Emma Corrin. As the Princess of Wales was an influential and beloved icon with her effect on the world, many are excited to see her being depicted on-screen for the popular show.

Hold onto your crowns, because the new season is set to be released on November 17th.

The Politician

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, this new musical dark comedy web series will have you laughing with the performance of the star-studded cast. With actors including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Ben Platt, Lucy Boynton, and Zoey Deutch, the series shares the story of Payton (played by Ben Platt), a rich kid who’s always known he would be President one day. However, he’s faced with having to make his way up with the most dreadful obstacle anyone has ever had to go through in life: high school.

Fans who have loved Ryan Murphy’s shows like Scream Queen, Glee, and American Horror Story will surely love this new series.

The Politician is set to premiere on Netflix on September 27th. Check out the trailer below!

Elite

You’ve probably been living under a rock if you haven’t heard of Elite yet. With the first season premiere released just last October, this Spanish teen drama is kind of like Gossip Girl meets Pretty Little Liars. The series is set around a group of students at an elite secondary school, who deal indifferences with each others’ places in society, sexual attraction, envy, and well, murder.

While it’s a bit cliché and nothing you haven’t seen before, the Spanish series has gained quite a bit of attention and were met with positive reviews since the release of the second season.

The series’ second season was released on September 6th, and a third season was also announced ahead of the release date.

The King

Many fans of Timothée Chalamet (including myself) have been long-aware about this upcoming film Chalamet is set to star in, and now the day is just among us! Chalamet plays the titular character of Hal, a prince who ascends his way up to become King Henry V through war and chaos after the death of his father. The plot of the film is adapted from several of Shakespeare’s famous plays from Henriad.

Seeing Chalamet in many of his famous successful roles such as Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird, his new role in The King is definitely something new for the actor. Other actors set to star alongside him include Robert Pattinson, Joel Edgerton, and Lily-Rose Depp.

The film had its official world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 2nd, with a theatrical release on October 11th. A digital streaming release on Netflix will take place on November 1st.

Unbelievable

Inspired by true events, those who love crime shows might want to add this to their binge-list. This mini-series tells the story of teenager Marie Adler (played by Kaitlyn Dever), who is charged of false accused rape. Two detectives (played by Hereditary actress Toni Collette and Merritt Wever) go on a series of investigations to find out the truth.

Loosely based on the 2008-2011 Washington and Colorado serial rape cases, the show depicts a story of unspeakable trauma and the ugly truth of victims who go through the torment of not having anyone believe in their story. The mini-series dropped on September 13th with 8 episodes.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie

It’s an exciting time for all Breaking Bad fans! With the series ending back in 2013, many fans of the hit show have been left wondering what’s left in store for lead title character Jesse Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul) following his release from months of captivity. Now, it looks like we’ll get to see what comes out of the former meth dealer’s freedom in this new continuation of the series.

Set after the finale of where the series ended, it looks like Jesse Pinkman will be joined by his friend Skinny Pete, played by Charles Baker, in the upcoming movie. Being regarded as one of the greatest television shows of all time and even having entered the Guinness Book of World Records back in 2013, it’s not too surprising that the show got its own movie, even though the show ended 6 years ago. Fans will be able to see Jesse back on their screen when the movie drops on Netflix on October 11th.

The Witcher

Based on the book series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher is finally being brought to life on-screen! The fantasy drama series will star former Superman actor Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where humans prove to be even more wicked than the beasts. He eventually comes across a sorceress and a princess which sets them off on a journey of danger and adventure across the continent. Though no official release date has been announced yet, Chief Content Officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, has confirmed that the show will be released in late 2019.

The first teaser of the show was released at San Diego Comic-Con on July 19th, which you can check out below!
