It’s an exciting time for designers and artists in the Canadian fashion industry, with Toronto Fashion Week two weeks away! And for those who have a love for jewelry, I’d like to introduce to you a designer that will become your new favourite.
This year will mark the official debut in Canada for artisan fine jewelry designer Hania Kuzbari, with the launch of her exclusive collection at Toronto Fashion Week. Born and raised in Syria, Kuzbari moved to Canada to study jewelry and gemology at Toronto’s George Brown College. Initially graduating with a degree in business, she went on to study jewelry design arts at the Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence, Italy.
Inspired by both the aged and modern cultures from her travels, she continues to incorporate artistic quality while telling detailed stories through her work.
Having launched her eponymous collection back in 2014, the brand is characterized by its unique artistic detail and fine craftsmanship, every piece acting as a standalone wearable objets d’art. With each collection created as “limited edition,” every piece is unique and representative of the designer’s life. Her creations are made with ethically-sourced materials that include brilliant-coloured gemstones and valuable metals, promoting sustainability through the art process. Kuzbari’s lived experiences are represented and symbolized in each of her designs, making it all the more thoughtful and personal for the wearer.
“Personally, I would love it if the message behind my jewelry reaches people internationally. However, I believe people are more likely to buy a piece if they interpret it through their own life experiences. Some may simply buy a piece because of its beautiful design rather than personal life experiences - or even my own message,” says Kuzbari.
Kuzbari’s debut at Toronto Fashion Week comes just after her solo exhibition that launched at the Stories Art Gallery in the district of Mayfair, London. Her designs have also featured at Toronto’s Aga Khan Museum as well as popular fashion magazine British Vogue. On her recent success, Kuzbari expressed her excitement and the inspiration behind her designs. “Following our show at Stories Art Gallery in Mayfair, we’re excited to make our Canadian debut at Toronto Fashion Week” says Hania. “My work is inspired by the details found in objects, patterns and things we see and use in our daily lives. Anything that catches my eye is a source of inspiration, particularly the culture and architecture of my homeland, Syria.”
The designer’s debut will be through an exclusive parlour-style presentation in the exclusive Yorkville Room inside the luxurious Hazelton Hotel, taking place on September 4th at 4PM. Kuzbari will also be present at the Toronto Fashion Week® Marketplace, which features multiple upcoming and established brands from rising designers. Artisans and designers will be able to make connections within the industry as well as provide the opportunity to sell directly to consumers. Located at 136 Yorkville Avenue inside The Lane at Yorkville Village, the marketplace will be running from September 3rd - 5th from 10AM to 7PM.
Make sure to keep an eye out for Hania Kuzbari at this year’s Toronto Fashion Week to see her creative vision brought to life!
