Each year, Concept Korea, an immense fashion collective, showcases emerging Korean designers at NYFW. A collaborative project that puts forward the authentic talent of Korean designers, Concept Korea assists by helping designers break into the international market.
Returning for its 21st season and its 10th year anniversary at NYFW, Concept Korea presented three very talented South Korean brands: LIE, Leyii and IISE.
Throughout the three immersive presentations, there were countless looks that stood out to us. However, it was one particular collection that resonated deeply, sharing its innovative design and rich urban colouring.
LIE, a modern women’s ready-to-wear label showcased their FW2020 collection yesterday, sharing an array of looks that captured masculine-feminine duality. For LIE, London during the 1960’s was the main inspiration. Using combinations of bold and sculptural shapes contrasted against organic, feminine lines as well as influential styling of the working class; designer Chung Chung Lee created dynamic looks reminiscent of the post-industrial architecture of London.
For us, this collection really captured that aesthetic, in addition to taking a deconstructed athleisure approach with a range of oversized coats, jackets, and blouses with architectural shoulders. Innovative construction continues to be at the forefront for designer Chung Chung Lee, with one of our favourite looks being the combination of two suit jackets fused into one.
