Stepping out to an offsite location just west of East Harlem, at The Africa Center on Fifth Avenue, excitement and energy beamed from audiences waiting to enter the venue. With AREA's collections, greatness is expected and always delivered. Whether it be attention to detail, architecturally structured silhouettes or innovative themes there is always something to be excited about.
This season in particular for AREA marked a new beginning; their first-ever collaboration with luxury lifestyle brand myreality. A collaboration that would also take the form of a charitable effort. In an effort to give back to a community that had uplifted the designers and their devotion to fashion art and design, AREA and myreality donated the proceeds of their art object accessories to The Africa Center.
The Collection
For FW20 for AREA had a number of moving elements, but the most prominent being bling and grandiose structure. For the brand, major influence emerged from Madame Grès and Japanese Costume Designer Eiko Ishioka. Grès known for draped dressing and Ishioka for architectural structure, Area evolved both collections in a way that resonated with their own brand structure.
Within the collection AREA also explores the idea of fantasy, escapism, and realism. Alongside these dream-like pieces, the designers anchor the collection into reality by playing with textures and classic ideas of sophistication, such as French wooden parquet floor and British herringbone. A celebration of duality and togetherness, AREA continues to grow beyond its Downtown. roots, connecting communities and spreading its ethos of inclusiveness and irreverent glamour and the beauty of the craft.
