It seems like it was just a few weeks ago that we were trying to decide which makeup to put away for next year while preparing for a spring-to-summer routine. We don’t want to let the moment pass too quickly this time. Definitely not without making sure we have everything we need. This fall-winter season we want to put our eyeshadow palettes to extremely good use before packing up for spring again.
So get excited, because today we’re tapping into the hearts and souls of fall lovers everywhere by sharing a few powerful eye products that are sure to make your warm lattés taste a little more delicious, and your chunky sweaters feel even cozier.
Tried-and-true is a motto we live by when it comes to makeup, so it’s not just the latest pretty palettes that have caught our attention. Lucky for you, over the years we have been constantly putting a range of eyeshadows to the test, and after careful consideration of quality, price, performance, detail, and overall aesthetic, we've compiled a list of palettes that are essential for an enchanting autumnal look.
Anastasia Beverly Hills: Modern Renaissance
The Modern Renaissance palette is an absolutely necessary for every beauty lover. The pink and red hues could not be more pigmented, and the shimmer shades are a classic. Once you hit pan on ANY of these shades, you’ll feel the need to replace the whole palette ASAP. Every inch of this palette is essential, and the warm vibes practically scream “Autumn.”
Urban Decay Born To Run
This new beauty is absolutely worth investing in this fall. It includes 21 blendable shades, more than half of which are neutral or warm and extremely wearable for everyday looks. But your options here are endless—don’t be afraid of the cool-toned blue, green, and purple pans. They are the perfect evening transitions when blended with warm tones and might even be a wonderful contrast to those orange pumpkin patch photoshoots this October.
Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Contour
We love a basic palette that can help us achieve a quick look that complements those cozy knit sweaters. This matte palette is perfect for low-key fall looks before we get into the holiday shimmer craze. Consisting of both light and dark shades with neutral, cool, and warm undertones, you can easily use this on the go before school, classes, or work, and touch up with it throughout the day as the packaging is so sleek. The shades are divided into 3 quads, but here’s our secret: mix them all up and it still works out beautifully every time.
e.l.f. Cosmetics Mad for Matte Eyeshadow Palette
Was the first Urban Decay Naked palette an essential for you while you started discovering makeup? It was definitely ours, but sometimes a few of the shades felt unnecessary, especially in a back-to-school fall look that didn’t require so much glitter. This is a similar toned-down version, but also a more affordable palette for those of you trying to achieve the eye contour, shadow-ey, all matte look like Kat Von D’s palette. We’re quick to assume fall palettes mean warm camel tones and bright reds, but this is the perfect example of a fall palette that can be used daily by people of all ages—and its great quality for the price.

Tarte tartelette™ toasted eyeshadow palette
Although it was difficult to choose just one, we had to mention Tarte eyeshadows because they’re just that good. They are affordable for a Sephora product that performs so beautifully. The colours blend effortlessly on the eyes and the shades always work so well together, to the point where there’s no way you’ll ruin the look. We decided to go with the toasted palette because it has a little bit of everything—light creams, pale pinks and peaches, warm maroon shades, a deeper plum, and the most amazing champagne, gold, and bronze shimmers that can pull together any colour-changing-leaf-inspired look. That’s a video title thing that beauty gurus do, right?
ColourPop Give it to me straight
Colourpop deserves all the love and this may be a more affordable option that is quite similar to Tarte’s toasted palette. You can create stunning fall daytime looks as well as romantic evening glam looks with this perfect mixture of warm matte and shimmer tones. The wonderful thing about Colourpop is that these shades are extremely pigmented but can also be enhanced dramatically with a wet brush. Yet, they still manage to blend like a dream.
COVERGIRL TruNaked Eyeshadow Palettes
We’re going to keep this short and sweet. These are some of the best palettes that can be found at your local drugstore, so snag them before you can no longer find them near you. They are by no means a new product but they continue to be a popular choice by many, especially considering the quality and the shade range—all 3 are perfect for fall, but we have to recommend the “Goldens” and “Roses” as they remind us of fallen pink petals and crunchy leaves.
When purchasing you palettes or palette, remember. ... you don’t need to own all of these. They can all bring out the autumnal vibes that everyone seems ready to take on as soon as mid September comes around. Figure out what undertones suit you best and which types of shades you’ll get the most use out of. Whether it is a warm or neutral shadow, or matte or shimmer shades, we hope we’ve done the fall season justice with a great selection of products you can’t go wrong with.
