Canadian Female Entrepreneurs To Know On International Women's Day

It's International Women's Day, the time of year where we celebrate the strong, fearless and empowering women all around us.


While we like to recognize women on the daily, celebratory days like International Women's Day allow up to broaden our voice and spark deeper conversations. It's a moment to relish in our amazing splendour and uplift women all around the world.


In honour of this monumental day, we're highlighting some empowering women within the Canadian Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle communities who have proved that as women, we really can achieve anything.


Sina Zere

Founder 1’Lux Beauty, Buff Experts and Buff Wax Spot



Working at her very successful Edmonton Wax Bar, Buff Wax Spot, Sina Zere struggled to find products that she could use on her clients that were both nourishing and safe. Taking matters into her own hands, this entrepreneur created "two unique product lines; 1'Lux Beauty a line of zero-tox luxury body care products and Buff Experts, a line of female intimate care products designed to maintain balanced pH levels".



Jessica Burman

Founder & CEO Cocoon Apothecary



Plant based-enthusiast and mom of two, Jessica Burman uncovered her company, Cocoon Apothecary,15 years ago in Kitchener, Ontario. Using her robust knowledge of aromatherapy, skincare, and perfumery she's created a brand with a number of much-loved formulas. "Her avid research has taken her to the lavender fields of France and the rainforests of Costa Rica to understand the plants she uses more deeply."



Jillian Mariani

Founder, Niyama Yoga Wellness



Holding 20 years of experience within the Natural Health and Nutrition, Niyama Yoga Wellness founder Jillian Mariani started her career in Sales and Brand Management. Shortly thereafter, Mariani advanced to Executive level positions in Marketing and Innovation for companies including Jamieson Vitamins. Finding inspiration within her own yoga practice, and a desire for clean, effective supplements Mariani created her very successful vegan, natural supplement line designed to fuel and inspire the yoga lifestyle

Tired of running around the city, the female entrepreneur decided to make a facility where you could sit, read, eat, exercise and even get a blowout - today, the company offers community events and has become an iconic destination for Torontonians.

Fearless and empowering, Michelle August, opened up her widely successful business SPIN Co, at just 22 years old. Originating in Kelowna, August started her journey with a desire to spice up the average workout, which led to the creation of an expansive community. Today, the spin studio continues to be successful and has even spread over Canada including within our very own city, Toronto.
