As Founder and Creative Director of the highly coveted fashion house MOSCHINO, Jeremy Scott knows a thing or two about creating exhilarating collections with underlying messages that captivate audiences.
This season, collaborating with artist Aleksandra Mir for his RTW Fall 2019 collection, Jeremy Scott created pieces that incorporated hand-drawn blown up renderings of tabloid covers straight from the New York Post and New York Daily News as a way to convey societies obsession with false and elaborated news article headlines. This topic is more prominent today than ever with the rapid rise of "clickbait" and publications using misleading statements as a way to lure in readers and create a false narrative. As we've bared witness to, it causes this divide that Jeremy so eloquently captured with contrasting fabrics and fits. Backstage at NYFW, Jeremy told news outlets that his objective with this impactful collection was to turn the “garbage" of mass media "into something beautiful.”
Using mainly a black and white colour palette, Jeremey illuminated the NYFW runway with bold print, an array of texture, and both voluminous and relaxed silhouettes. From his start studded runway, here we outline the biggest trends from Jeremy Scotts RTW Fall 2019 collection.
The Sheer Truth
Sheer fabrics grazed the runway with bold lettering. Ranging in textures like vinyl to a softer more crochet like fabric, the sheer elements with block lettering could metaphorically be seen as our inability to see through the deceit and false claims.
Turn Up The Volume
Featherweight tulle skirts made their debut on Jeremy's runway. Showcasing a range of a-line printed skirts, they added a feminine touch to an edgy and bold collection - straying away from Jeremy's conventional silhouettes.
Out Of The Trenches
Layering was a key element of this runway, especially with Jeremy's take on the long line trench coat. Showcasing both fluid and structured trenches, they served as great protection from the torrential down pour of mainstream media.
Shimmer, Away.
Although more subtle in some pieces than others, shimmer was a central element of Jeremy’s RTW Fall 2019 collection. Imagining the shimmer as a contrast to the stark and ill headlines we loved the incorporation of sparkle in this collection.
Distressed
Mirroring the media's distress on society, Jeremy Scott included a number of printed distressed denim looks. Usually in the form of a co-ord, the looks really added to the dark and salacious undertone of the runway.
Belt It From The Roof Tops
Belts are back on the runway and in this collection they come in all shapes and sizes. Cinching in at the waist and hip, Jeremy opted to flatter both the male and female figure.
