On what’s supposed to be “the most romantic day of the year,” Valentine’s Day really sets the bar high on girl (or boy!) expectations. For those who already have a significant other, it’s easy to celebrate and show affection. But what about, the singles? What about us?
While Valentine’s Day seems to be the day for couples to flaunt their relationships, that doesn’t mean those who don’t have a partner can’t get some love. If you’re single in the city, don’t worry; we have some ideas for you that will make your evening a bit more wholesome for Valentine’s Day.
Netflix and chill.
When I say Netflix and chill, I mean literally Netflix and chill. Make yourself a hot chocolate, grab some popcorn or chips, and snuggle under the covers while you decide what to watch for the evening. Whether you want to go on a rom-com spree or binge-watch all the seasons of Game of Thrones, the choice is yours and you have no one to fight with.
Cook for yourself
Sure, dates sound romantic, until it gets to that infamous conversation “What do you want to eat?” “I don’t know, you pick.” With the night to yourself, you don’t have to worry about what the other person wants; it’s all about you. Who wouldn’t want to have a large bowl of homemade pasta all to themselves?
Go on a social media detox.
The last thing you want is to feel discouraged and lonely on Valentines Day (remember it’s just a day!!). Seeing others brag about how their significant other went all out and spoiled them with a room full of roses on Instagram won’t help. Do yourself a favour and turn your phone off for the night. Enjoy “you-time” and don’t worry about what others are doing.
Pamper yourself.
Make the most of your relaxing night in! Take a hot bubble bath with some nicely lit candles on the side. While you’re at it, snack on some macarons if you’re going for that Blair Waldorf vibe. Don’t forget to complete your skincare routine after your bath; scrubs and facial masks are the ultimate treats for your skin.
Make your own chocolate.
Nothing says “I love you” more than chocolate. While you’re free to run off to the store and pick up a box off a shelf, why not get adventurous for the night and make your own! It’s a perfect opportunity for you to try your hand at making sweets, and if anything turns out wrong, you don’t have to worry since no one else will be receiving them!
