It’s officially “once I’m home I’m not going back out again” season. So sorry friends - the only plans I’ll be making in the next four months are to stay at home and eat pizza with bae (aka Netflix). But this winter weather isn’t just affecting my social life. The cold temps and lack of daylight can have a serious impact on mental health. S.A.D is a real thing y’all - look it up. This week I’m coming at you with a winter wellness night routine to keep you happy and cozy until the summer finally returns.
Get Comfy. 5:30pm.
The first thing I do when I get home is take my pants off. That might be TMI but whatever. I just don’t trust people who can relax in jeans. After a long day of hustling and grinding all I want to be is comfortable. If I’m at home, I’m in sweats or leggings.
Refuel. 6pm.
Next, I need some food because I am STARVING. My fave things to make in the colder months are pasta or quick and healthy veggie stir fry. I always make sure to drink lots of water throughout the day - because water solves all of life’s problems - and I’ll refill my water bottle before I eat. I don’t know about you, but I HAVE to watch something while I eat. It’s a weird habit I know but there truly is no better combo then food and Netflix. I use this time to catch up on any shows I’m watching and then somehow always end up scrolling through social media on my phone or doing some work on my computer.
Cleanse. 9:30pm.
My skincare routine is nowhere near extravagant, but I still make a point to show my face some love every night, especially in the winter. Taking off my makeup is almost as rewarding as putting it on. I’m a big fan of doubling cleansing to make sure every last bit gets off my skin (a habit I picked up from my beauty bar days). First with an oil-based cleanser and then with a water-based cleanser. After that I use a gentle toner, followed by a thick nighttime moisturizer. I use a jade roller to work in my moisturizer, I really don’t think it actually does anything extra, but it makes me feel fancy and like a #blogger.
Wind Down. 10pm.
I’m trying (unsuccessfully) to cut back on my binge-watching habit and as literally every sleep study will tell you - too much screen time disrupts your beauty sleep. And no one wants that. Try to disconnect for an hour before bed. If you want to read, meditate, journal, or whatever your thing is now is the time to do it. Usually I’ll have a peppermint tea and try to read a bit.
Lights Out. 11pm.
Keeping a consistent sleep schedule is SO crucial. I try to hit the sheets around 11pm to make sure I’m getting at least 8 hours. Anything less than that and I am not a functioning human - no matter how much coffee I drink.
