Have you made plans to get away from the cold weather but dreading the long flight? We know exactly how that feels. Beautiful tropical beaches are usually far to travel to, but it’s totally worth it even if that means sitting in a tight seat for hours, sometimes overnight. But what if we told you that you can actually enjoy flying? Turning your flight into a mini “me-time” spa session might actually make it a relaxing experience for you. You can tune everything out and have a few hours just to yourself—so why not unwind in your seat and indulge in some fun activities that you might not normally have time for, while also taking care of yourself?
Conquer Chapped Lips
This Nuxe Rêve de Miel Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm
For extra freshness pack a toothbrush and toothpaste to use before you apply this hydrating lip balm by the French brand Nuxe. This little gem from Shoppers Drug Mart is like finding gold in a gold mine—it’s hidden away in a tiny box but once you have it in your hands you’ll never want to part with it. Your lips are going to need the extra care, especially during longer flights. Make sure to throw in a piece of gum before take-off and landing! The chewing will help stop that pesky ear pressure.

In-Flight Skincare
Just like your lips, your skin will need all the help it can get while at 35,000ft altitudes. We love that the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream that comes in a 60ml travel size. Forget packing several heavy products because this moisturizer is perfect for both face and hands!

If you’re travelling for 6+ hours, or just you want to go the extra mile, pack a mini Josie Maran Argan Oil in your travel bag and press it into your skin after moisturizing. Oils can slowly penetrate into moisturizers, so give your skin what it wants early into your flight to keep it happy all throughout.

Finally, if you can’t bring yourself to use our favourite Dr. Jart+ sheet masks on a flight full of strangers, opt for a face mist for a quick spritz of extra hydration whenever you need it. We love this Mario Badescu Rose Facial Spray with Aloe. It’s both nourishing and smells refreshing so you can also use it in your bed-head hair before stepping off the plane

Freshen Up
If you’re someone who likes to freshen up with some light makeup before landing, opt for a versatile makeup palette that does it all. The Kevyn Aucoin Contour Book Volume 3 will come in handy for a full-face look with its beautiful bronzers, highlighters, and blush tones. Now all you need is your favourite concealer and lippie to complete your travel look.

Smell Good
Make sure to pack a perfume like this blood-orange scented Paradise Rollerball by NEST. It’s the perfect blend of citrusy and sweet, but not too much that it overwhelms you (or everyone else around you!). Use a very light amount behind your ears and on your wrists during a flight to block out other scents, especially if your seat is close to the washrooms.

Put Your Comfort First
Comfort is absolutely a top flight priority. Nobody wants to sit in the same spot for hours in misery! We always make sure to dress light and airy, and pack an essential blanket scarf—use it on your shoulders when you’re cold, cover your eyes with it if the lights turn on while you’re snoozing, or put it on your legs if you’re feeling that airplane breeze. While you’re at it, grab a pair of cozy socks so your feet don’t get cold when you decide to take off your shoes an hour into your flight!

Tune It Out
Noise cancelling headphones are great for airplane ambient noise if you don’t want to listen to anything—but they’re also great for plugging into your phone and passing the time with music. Invest in a good pair like these rose gold Beats Noise Cancelling Bluetooth headphones and you might even enjoy flying from now on.

Pre-Planned Entertainment
Preparing for long flights before-hand is a must. Pass the time with a book that you’ve been eyeing or bring a journal and pens along for doodling or creative writing. Download Netflix a series, a few movies, or even an audiobook through audible.com or scribd.com, but don’t forget your chargers so your electronics last!
Emergency Snacks
Just in case your stomach starts growling, don’t get on that flight without securing a filling snack of some sort—our favourites are peanut butter chocolate chip or coconut Larabars. And make sure to pack a refillable water bottle if your flight permits it! Otherwise, grab yourself a large bottle of water before you board your flight. Sometimes we opt for a litre of coconut water instead!
