With the cool weather underway, everyone is getting ready for Fall. It has been a long summer and we're ecstatically ready to stop sweating and switch up our style to something cozier.
These past few weeks, we’ve been working on transitioning our wardrobe to make sure it’s just as ready as we are. As it turns out, it’s not as difficult as it seems to stay warm during a brisk fall evening, even if certain Canadian cities tend to reach outrageous temperatures as soon as September hits. Luckily, layering clothing is a chic and easy way to stay warm this season. In order to help you stay cozy as the temperatures drop, we're uncovering the must-have layering pieces for fall.
T-Shirt or Cami
You probably already have these and have worn them through the spring and summer. T-Shirts and cami's are a staple that everyone should have. Whether you want it to be visible or stay hidden, using a T-shirt or camisole will add that extra protection against any autumnal breeze.
Collared Blouse
Blouses are great layering pieces because they provide extra warmth, you can wear them open or buttoned up, and you can wear shirts underneath while comfortably adding an outer layer on top. Our tip? Layer a collared button-up blouse or bring out your fun side with this pattern tweed blouse. With it, you can easily pair with any simple piece to add a subtle contrast.
Turtlenecks & Mock Necks
Turtlenecks are a cold weather classic, and a mock neck is essentially a turtleneck but toned down as the collar sits just below the Adam’s apple. According to your preferences, choose one that is either light and airy or warm and thick - or if you have a shopping addiction like us, grab one of each! We love this tight fitting Wilfred turtleneck and it comes in all this season’s most popular colours. You’ll want to seek out orange, blue, yellow, and violet hues—and of course a lot of white. Along with the colourful patterns, the runways have been full of stunning head-to-toe creamy white ensembles. We might be sloppy eaters, but this is a risk we’re willing to take.
Scarf
We always like to have a big scarf on hand in case our neck and ears need some warmth—and you likely have this one sitting in your closet from last year. Bring it out because it’s still trending! This year we’re aiming for fall vibes - so gravitate a blanket scarf with neutral colors. The more pattern on your scarf, the better.
Vest
Vests have come a long way in the past few years. If you’re excited to get back into the riding trend, dress up your outfit with a short puffer vest or a furry shearling vest. Pair it with heels for a nice dinner date or throw on some all white sneakers while you take on the streets of downtown Toronto.

Blazer
Blazers are this fall’s staple piece and we totally trust in brands such as Prada, Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein, and Fendi as they’ve set the trend for herringbone and glen plaid patterned blazers at this year’s runways. The masculine silhouette and boxy 90’s look is exactly what we need. You can spice up your look with a scarf or hat—it will definitely add even more flair and personal style. Plus, it’s easy to transition flawlessly back into spring with the same blazer. Such a necessity!
Jacket
Here’s another one you’re likely to already own. Waist-length jackets are a staple in everyone’s closet no matter what type of climate you live in. For layering, we love a good denim jacket, a bomber or puffer, a classic leather jacket, and in style yet again is the shearling “teddy bear” jacket. You can’t go wrong with colourful pieces this year either, so don’t be afraid to push past your boundaries. It’s all about bold and edgy.
Long Coat
An absolute must is a long coat to keep you warm on especially cold days. It’s also a great transition piece that will come in very handy all throughout the winter. Choose a basic wool coat in a timeless colour such as grey, black, or tan, or even a classic plaid and we guarantee you’ll be wearing this with any outfit, on top of several layers, for years to come.
The most important thing about layering is to make sure you include your own personal twist and rock your favourite pieces with pride. You can still be trendy and stand out—in fact, we’re especially excited to see the endless possibilities of unique patterns all over the shops this year. And we’re even more excited to see how you decide to style them.
