The Face Masks We Swear By

We love our skin, but all true love stories take work. The best way to show your skin some love is through a good face mask. Skincare has come a long way in the last few years and choosing the mask for you can be pretty intimidating. Narrowing it down from hundreds of different ingredients, applications and prices is stressful; the thought alone is giving us a pimple.

Stay calm, we’re here to help. We have broken down what ingredients to look for in your face mask, based on your skin type. With this knowledge you should feel confident walking into your fav store, choosing your fav application, at whatever price works for you!

Oily Skin

Oily skin types can find themselves shiny all over by the middle of the day. They have larger pores, visible black heads, and usually suffer from acne. If that sounds like you, stick to a Clay Mask. There are many different types of clay but they all share a similar function; clay is purifying and has minerals that your skin needs. After applying, watch as the clay sucks out all of the excess oil and dirt leaving your skin feeling tighter and smooth. With continuous use (1-2 times a week) you should notice less breakouts and an even, smoother complexion! That means no need for blotting shine away throughout the day, but remember, your skin needs to have balance, so it is important after using a clay mask to complete your routine with a water based moisturizer for hydrating.

Our favourite Clay Mask is Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask for $20

Dry Skin

Dry skin typically has little to no shine and often appears dull and rough. It is common for dry skin to feel tight and itchy especially after the shower and during the winter months. Because of this, fine lines are more apparent and can give the skin a grey tone. For dry skin, we recommend Oatmeal Masks. Oatmeal is a humectant, which helps your skin retain moisture over time. It is also an exfoliator, that works to gently brush off and remove any texture leaving you with a smooth and even complexation. Oatmeal is also super stimulating, helping to produce the oil your skin is desperately lacking. What's more? It is amazing for sensitive skin and helps soothe dryness caused by a rash or eczema. Good-bye flaky skin!

Our favourite Oatmeal Mask is First Aid Beauty’s Instant Repair Oatmeal Mask for $30

Combination Skin

Combination skin is a mixture of very dry and very oily patches. The skin is shiny in the T-zone; across your forehead and down your nose and chin area, yet dry and flaky around the cheeks and under the eyes. This type of skin needs to be treated with caution, it is important to find a balance and not ignore a section of the skin. We recommend a Glycolic Acid Mask for combination skin. Glycolic is derived from sugar cane making it gentle enough for sensitive skin (if done safely). It is amazing for exfoliating because it reacts only to the top layer of skin. It helps absorb excess oil and smooths dry texture; leaving the skin with a refreshing tingly feel. Glycolic acid also treats scarring, pigmentation, and is great for anti-aging. It is important to follow the packaging directions when using Glycolic and cut back on, or choose a lower percentage if your skin shows sign of irritation.

Our favourite Glycolic Acid Mask is Ren Glycolic Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask for $68
