Dull and Dry Skin in The Winter? - Here's Our Fix

With the fall weather (hopefully) soon approaching our skin's needs are starting to shift. Cold winds and cooler temperatures mean it’s time to retire our summer skin products and bring out the big guns to keep your skin glowing and fresh for the winter. We’ve rounded up a few of our top tips for the winter months check them out below.

1. Slather on that Vit C!

This antioxidant powerhouse is not to be skipped. Vitamin C Serums have the ability to help protect your skin from free radicals while boosting the overall glow of your complexion. No more winter dullness! Try subbing in a Vitamin C serum before slathering on your morning moisturizer for an extra skin booster. We love the brightening powers of Dr. Dennis Gross’s Clinical Concentrate Radiance Booster, if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly product give The Ordinary’s Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% serum a try. Both offer a lightweight formula which absorbs quickly and provides noticeable benefits to your skin.

2. Rethink your Exfoliator

You cell turnover naturally slows down in the winter. This means nix that bi-weekly exfoliation for once a week. Consider switching over to a chemical exfoliant for the colder months. We love Pixi’s Glow Toner which uses 5% glycolic acid to strip away dead skin cells without causing cell damage commonly brought on by physical exfoliants.

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

The frigid winds during the winter are enough to run a shiver down your spine. Keep your skin protected by ensuring your skin’s moisture barrier is in tip-top shape. Ensure you keep up with your moisturizer and maybe even bump up to a heavier formula for the colder months. Invest in a good quality scarf and parka to help defend your skin from the winter’s elements.

Moisturizers we love (for dry and dull skin):

4. Don’t forget the SPF!

Even though it’s cooler we can’t neglect our sun protection, the sun still shines in the winter! Always make sure to put on some form of SPF before you leave the house. Whether in your moisturizer or a stand-alone protectant your future skin will thank you.

5. Facial Oils

The winter months are an excellent time to try out new products. Our team is obsessed with face oils during the colder season. These oil-based skin saviors are to be used in small amounts (we're talking 2-3 drops!). Try subbing out your PM moisturizer with a facial oil to wake up with glowing skin. An old tried and truthful is Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (it’s also great for the tips of your hair) just two drops is enough. Make sure to put the product on the palms of your hands first and then gently pat onto skin. If you’re new to facial oils add them in 2-3 times a week until your skin adjusts.

While every person's skin is different and will adjust to products differently give a few of these tips a try! We're sure you're winter skin will thank you.
